How Acne or Pimples Form Under The Skin (with pictures!)

I always wondered what my next acne post would be and who knew it would be a video! I often deliberated with the thought of extending the Science Behind Beauty to it's very own channel on youtube. I really enjoyed filming this video about acne, as I was able to explain this complex mechanism in just a few minutes.

A £32 Face Oil? | Trying These High-End Skincare Products For A Whole Month! (Review)

Inner Senses 7 Wonders Panacea Face & Body Oil and Sond Night Cream

Hi guys so I'm back with another review. I spent the last month trying out the Inner Senses Organics 7 Wonders Skin Panacea Face & Body Oil (£32) and the Sond Midnight Feast Night Cream (£38). In addition to that I used my trusty Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water and kept my skincare really simple, so I could see if the new-in products were actually working. I always say.. it's not about the amount of products you are using but the effectiveness of what your using.

#DearJuliet | Are facial oils enough to use on their own? Isn't daily scrubbing too abrasive? How do you know when you're overdoing it?

#DearJuliet : Are facial oils enough to use on their own? How do you know when your overdoing it? The daily face washes out there, are they as really required? I mean isn't daily scrubbing to abrasive?

The Science Behind Acne

One big myth is that somehow acne is caused by having a bad diet and because you are unhealthy. Acne is way more complex than the beauty world makes it seem. And many people are led to believe that acne can be easily solved by over-the-counter cosmetics. Not to say, there aren’t great things out there on the market, but with acne, there is a much bigger story.

The Ordinary | Do Their 'Cosmetic' Skincare Products Work On Acne & Hyperpigmentation?

I've been seeing many reviews on The Ordinary skincare products. And I thought it'd be great to look into skincare brand and try out some of their products. So I purchased the Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% and the Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane. I chose these 2 particular products because its claims of having the active ingredients Vitamin C and Retinoids, which are sought after in the beauty world because of its role in fighting the effects acne.

#DEARJULIET | Do you think natural products are better for my Eczema?

#DearJuliet: I'm 25 years old and I am been suffering with eczema since I was a child. I find that many creams and bath solutions my doctor gave aren't working for me, I still feel dry and itchy all the time. I literally have been using it off and on for years and it doesn't seem to work. I recently started using natural products such as shea butter and coconut oil and it has been working so well. I have noticed such a huge difference and I really think that natural products work better for me more than using creams prescribed by the doctor. What do you think? Is this a good idea, do you think natural products are better for me? Is it bad if I stop using my prescribed medicine altogether. Liz x

#DEARJULIET: How Do I Get Clear Skin Without Using Too Much Products?

#DearJuliet:
Usually my skin is fine and I see progress and I can physically see its getting better. And then I start getting spots on my face, randomly, and it really messes up my skin and my routine. I feel like there is something I'm doing wrong and I never know what to add to adjust my routine. So basically my question is, how do I clear skin without using much products? Anonymous x

What No One Tells You About Using Makeup On Acne

Tips for using makeup on acne prone skin

I have been recently watching a lot of makeup tutorials for hyperpigmentation and acne prone skin on youtube. And after watching a full face beat/ tutorial, I am amazed at how these self-taught makeup artists conceal their imperfections. It often reminds me of why I was inspired to start 'The Science Behind Beauty', because I really wanted a platform, where I could help people look at the science behind skin and tackle a lot of these skincare problems.

New In | What Garnier Products I Have Been Loving

One of my favourite affordable skincare brands is Garnier. Whenever I'm in superdrug or boots, I usually gear towards this brand. I think its mainly because their products are always usually calm, gentle and soothing on my skin! I really wanted to do a post about the Garnier products I have been loving because they have been a staple in my skincare routine for a long time. Although there are several other brands that I enjoy using, I thought it'd be a great idea to collect a few that I like from each and I'm starting with Garnier skin naturals.

Now I Understand Why There Is Skincare For Darker Skin

So I'm sure many of you are probably wondering why I am so passionate about teaching people about skincare. And as much as I love teaching and writing about skincare, I also love exploring the thin line between medicine and beauty world. Although both sides have the same goal in mind, in that they have their special ways of making us feel better about our body. They also show us a completely different perspective and focus on how to use products to work best for us. Studying medicine and the natural sciences for many years, has really shown me this difference. And I have really started to uncover skin as more than just outer 'beauty' but as a part of our inner health.

Why The Dove Nourishing Body Wash Is Still My Favourite...

That moment when you have had a long day and you just want to relax, take a shower and jump right into bed! I'm sure we've all had days like this, mine tends to be quite a frequent thing at the moment. One of my favourite guilty pleasures is my night bath time routine, I know it might seem kinda weird, because I really do enjoy it! So over the next few weeks, I will hopefully be able to uncover products I love using and review them.

Lip balms and treatment advice for dry, chapped and cracked lips. Favourites are EOS, carmex and vaseline.

I recently did a poll on my twitter page and asked what post to do next and a post on chapped lips was highly requested. So firstly, I want to say thank you to my lovely twitter followers, you guys are amazing! As promise this post is all about chapped lips and instead of just being a science nerd and describing the entire science behind it, I thought it'd be nice to include a few of my favourite lip balms too.

The Morning After | The Noxzema Deep Cleansing Cream

I have been guilty several times of sleeping with my makeup on! This is usually when I have a night out, and when I get in I intend on removing my makeup, but I just up dosing off. First thing in the morning, I usually reach for my Noxzema cleansing cream. Because quite frankly, I need some deep cleansing, plus some extra TLC for my skin.

Taking It Off | The Garnier Micellar Water Review

Taking off my makeup at night after a long exhausting day has always been a bit of a chore for me, simply because I just couldn't be bothered with wipes because I just found it too drying on my skin and I just didn't like the way my skin felt in the morning!

So often times, I would just fall right asleep and lucky enough for me I generally have good skin, so I rarely get worried about getting spots or worsening my skin. However as I have gotten older I do realise that although my skin rarely gives me problems, I do find that sometimes it just doesn't look the same. I find that the times I stray away from a good night time routine, I just don't look as radiant in the morning.
